Fair Oaks hosts Learning Edge Tutoring on Monday nights during the school year. The program provides free one-to-one tutoring for students who primarily live in the Austin neighborhood.
Learning Edge Tutoring has an immediate need for volunteer tutors for its Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evening programs. Tutors are matched with a student (grades K through 8) and meet with them once a week (holidays excluded) for 90 minutes from 6:30-8 pm through mid-May. Student-tutor pairs work together on homework and/or seek to improve fundamental reading and math skills. Support is provided by a Reading Specialist and volunteers with a background in education. Learning Edge has tutors of various ages ranging from high school students to retirees.
