Hybrid Communion Instructions

TO PREPARE COMMUNION – HYBRID

  1.  Purchase three loaves gluten free bread, one round uncut loaf of wheat bread, and one container of grape/purple berry juice.
  2. Cut slices of three loaves of gluten free bread into nine pieces per slice (3 loaves x 10 slices x 9 pieces = 270 pieces).  Leave on crusts.
  3. Place cut bread pieces onto four round service trays.  Place 15 pieces on tray marked “choir.”
  4. Using juice serving device, pour juice into 2/3 of glass cups in each of four round service trays.
  5. Cut round loaf in center 2/3 of the way.  (Allows for pastor to easily break bread during ceremony.)
  6. Wrap white napkin around cut round loaf and place on silver plate.
  7. Pour juice into glass pitcher.
  8. Move communion table to the front of the chancel.
  9. Place white tablecloth on the communion table.
  10. Place two communion silver candle sticks (with white oil candles) on the communion table.
  11. Place filled communion cups in choir pew holders and one on the organ console.
  12. Place silver plate of round bread, glass pitcher, large challis, four round trays of bread, and four round trays of juice on the communion table.
  13. Submit expenses to office; charge to WORSHIP/COMMUNION.

TO SERVE COMMUNION – HYBRID

  1. Servers come forward and take a tray of juice glasses from the communion table.
  2. Congregants come forward to receive communion.
  3. The pastors use the two baskets of bread to serve congregants.  
  4. After congregants get a piece of bread, the congregants get a glass of juice from one of the two servers.  
  5. If there is a third server, that server will take some bread and a tray of juice to serve anyone who cannot come up front. Otherwise, the pastors will do it.
  6. The pastors will serve the choir if the choir is singing.  

TO CLEAN UP AFTER SERVICE – HYBRID

  1.  Take all communion components to the kitchen.
  2. Move communion table to the back of the sanctuary.
  3. Using serving tray to collect used glass cups from pews.
  4. Place service candle sticks, bible and stand on the communion table.  (All stored in corridor to the right of the sanctuary.)
  5. Empty challises, glass pitcher into the sink.  Wash, dry and place in felt bags or box.
  6. Throw out cut gluten free bread.
  7. Give away round loaf of bread (or feed the squirrels).
  8. Wipe down silver plates and place in felt bags.
  9. Fold napkins and tablecloth.
  10. In the sink, prepare a bin of soapy warm water and a bin of clean warm water.
  11. Take a serving tray of glass cups and place mesh strainer on top.
  12. Flip over the serving tray inside sink to drain out any remaining juice.
  13. Keeping the serving tray upside down with strainer on top, dunk all into soapy water and shake up and down several times.
  14. Keeping the serving tray upside down with strainer on top, remove from soapy water and let excess drain.
  15. Keeping the serving tray upside down with the strainer on top, dunk all into clean water and shake up and down serval times.
  16. Empty glass cups onto a clean towel and dry, along with the serving tray.
  17. Reassemble serving trays with glass cups, stack, and place back into felt bag.
  18. Throw out extra communion bread.
  19. Wash and dry serving trays used to distribute bread.
  20. Stack and place in felt bag.
  21. Place all in cupboards in Fellowship Hall.
